YMI Traditional & Jazz Music Workshops at the Tolbooth


Youth Music Initiative Traditional and Jazz Workshops  based at the Tolbooth will be starting up again the week of 17th September. Both workshops are aimed at musicians from the age of 10 -18 from beginners (with minimum 6 mths experience of instrument) through to advanced musicians.  They are FREE thanks to the funding from the Youth Music Initiative.  They run throughout the year, term time only.  

No experience of jazz or traditional music is needed to join these workshops.

Traditional Music Workshop
Monday nights
The traditional music workshops offer an opportunity to play traditional music for the first time or to develop and improve your playing and performance of traditional music alongside other young musicians and some of Scotland’s finest traditional musicians and tutors, Lori Watson, Innes Watson and Claire Mann and visiting tutors through the year.

Traddies (beginners): 5.30pm – 6.15pm
The Session (intermediate): 6.20pm – 7.20pm
The Tolbooth Trad Band (advanced): 7pm – 8.20pm

Jazz Workshops
Tuesday nights
The jazz workshops offer a fantastic opportunity to play jazz for the first time or to develop and improve playing, improvisation, performance and your knowledge of jazz as part of a jazz ensemble.  The workshops are led by top Scottish jazz musicians and educators Laura Macdonald and Kevin Mackenzie.

Access Ensemble (beginners / intermediate): 5.30pm – 6.30
Stirling Youth Jazz Ensemble (advanced): 6.30pm – 7.45pm
