Breakfast Club – Information Update

Kippen Primary Breakfast Club information sheet

(February 2011)

Financial situation – financial balance as of the end of January 2011 =  £2100 in credit.

The Club is now set up as a self-financing club, taking no funds from Stirling Council and in particular no funds from the School.

In December the Breakfast Club donated 20 childrens books to the school library.

In January the Breakfast Club offered to donate £50 towards the purchase of a new School CD player (replacing the old broken one).

The Club is operated by a catering member of staff (Heidi) employed by Stirling Council together with a parent helper (organised via a parent rota): thus ensuring that 2 adults are always in attendance.  (Parents on the rota are all subject to enhanced disclosure – paid for out of Breakfast Club funds). The Club pays the Council for the hours that the catering member of staff works, and pays the catering bill.

The Club is open to all children at the school. No prior arrangements are needed for your child\children to attend. You just need bring them in and drop them off and they will be looked after until school begins. The club opens every day of the week at 08:00. The daily cost is £3 per child. For this they get a breakfast consisting of 3 items selected from: apple juice, orange juice, milk, hot chocolate, a variety of cereals, and toast and jam\marmalade. There are also games, drawing materials and the opportunity for the children to play together in a safe supervised environment.

Some children attend every day, others regularly attend for just part of the week, and yet others appear on an ad hoc basis (ie unforeseen circumstances, one-off changes to parent  work patterns, etc or the children just fancy it). All are welcome and this extends to the parents. Heidi is very happy to provide tea or coffee to parents (even a bite to eat), so if you’d like to find out what Breakfast Club is like then feel free to bring your child\children and enjoy a breakfast with us.

A key feature of the Breakfast Club is that it should also be a fun place where the children can interact with other children of all levels and the adults in attendance. With this in mind the Breakfast Club has put together a programme of Breakfast Club activity days that run through to the end of the school year. Including: dancing yourself dizzy on the “Spring Is Here” day, a “Blow Football Tournament”, and a bring your mum, granny, sister day to mark Mother’s Day! Please see our full programme for more information -  this will arrive as a flier and we hope will be posted on the School website.

The Breakfast Club Parent Committee are: Jo Walker (870943), David Price (870395), Pauline Beirne (870759), Dave Little (870393). If you have any questions regarding the Club (perhaps you are new?) then please feel free to contact any of us – we’d be more than happy to help.

Hope this is helpful and we’d be very happy to see you at the Club.     The Breakfast Club parent committee
