School budget – the facts

Did you know that the annual budget allocated to Kippen Primary school for educational supplies equates to £38.14 per child per year. That is just £9.53 a term.

That budget has to cover everything a child needs for their daily work from jotters, pens and folders to text books, reading schemes and worksheets. It covers everything needed for craft and display; everything needed for PE, music, and science;  It covers toiletries and all first aid equipment; and it covers all postage.

Stirling Council continues to face great financial challenges and have undertaken cuts such as the removal of all arts specialists in primary schools, a reduction in admin support and a reduction in Support for Learning. These type of cuts are set to continue.

That’s why fundraising by the school and the Parent Council is so important. The children have benefitted greatly from laptops; reading schemes, online resources, maths games, playground improvements, new sports equipment, plants and gardening resources and library seating and cushions – just some of the things that have been made possible through fundraising.
